E-waste & ITAD — common questions
What is e-waste and what items can be recycled as e-waste in the UAE?
E-waste (electronic waste) refers to any discarded electrical or electronic equipment. ClearEarth accepts computers, laptops, servers, mobile phones, tablets, printers, monitors, networking equipment, household appliances, refrigerators, air conditioners, batteries (lithium-ion, lead-acid, NiCd), fluorescent and LED lamps, UPS units and end-of-life vehicle electronics.
Is e-waste recycling mandatory in the UAE?
Yes. Under UAE Federal Law No. 12 of 2018 on Integrated Waste Management and Dubai's Cabinet Resolution No. 39 of 2018, businesses are required to dispose of e-waste through licensed recyclers. Improper disposal of e-waste in general waste streams carries fines from Dubai Municipality.
What is ITAD and how is it different from regular e-waste recycling?
ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) is the controlled, audited end-of-life process for IT equipment that combines secure data destruction, asset value recovery (resale or refurbishment), and compliant recycling of unrecoverable material. Regular e-waste recycling focuses only on material recovery; ITAD adds data security (ISO 27001, NIST 800-88) and value-recovery reporting.
Do you provide certificates for e-waste recycling?
Yes. Every collection generates a Certificate of Recycling and, where applicable, a Certificate of Data Destruction. Certificates include serial numbers, weights, processing dates, and downstream vendor traceability — accepted for ISO 14001, NESA and corporate ESG audits.
